Recently, the term mobile first indexing (MFI)has been heard a lot. There has also been a lot of confusion as what does Mobile first indexing mean for an average business owner. What needs to be done? Does the business owner need to change anything or everything for his website to be mobile friendly.

From July 1st 2019 mobile first indexing is by default enabled for all new websites. For the older existing sites Google will monitor and evaluate pages based on best practises.

What is Mobile first Indexing?

As the terms say, the mobile version of the website becomes the primary version for what Google includes in their index for ranking. It is called Mobile first as it is not mobile- only index. Even if the site is not mobile friendly version, the desktop version will be used for indexing. But this may impact the ranking.
